Research scope of the laboratory :

The network model is a common method for solving practical systems. For computer systems, telecommunication systems, power systems, logistics systems, manufacturing systems, service systems, etc., factors such as time, capacity, and cost are particularly important in these systems. The traditional network analysis methods introduced in operations research mostly set factors such as flow, time, and cost as deterministic models. However, due to factors such as repairs, failures, appointments, etc., from the customer’s point of view, many realistic flow networks such as computer systems, telecommunication systems, logistics systems, transportation systems, etc., the capacity of the transmission line should be regarded as stochastic is more reasonable, because the capacity that customers can use is limited by the above factors and is not necessarily fixed. This type of flow network is called a stochastic-flow network. And the main research of this laboratory is to analyze the realistic system to express it as a stochastic-flow network model, and then evaluate the network reliability of the system. This network reliability can be regarded as the performance indicator of the system for managers to make decisions.

Service Sciences is a kind of interdisciplinary integration. Its purpose is to integrate the research of operations research, industrial engineering, information science, business strategy, management science, social and cognitive science, and legal science to develop the skills needed in the service economy era. Based on Network Analysis, this laboratory transforms the service blueprint into a systematic network model, and then uses quantitative methods to evaluate the performance of the service system (such as network reliability) as an important indicator of service quality. At present, our laboratory has been cooperating with related service industries such as catering services and medical institutions for long-term cooperation to promote the application and practice of service science.
